Witsel remains a target but isn’t Boro bound

By Ross • Dec 1st, 2008 • Category: Boro News

Axel Witsel is subject to intense speculation over his future and is not short of links to Boro, as well as other clubs such as Arsenal, Bolton Chelsea and teams in Italy and Spain.

Luciano D’Onofrio, Standard Liege’s Vice President, refutes any speculation regarding the younster’s future and see’s him as an integral part of their future, so much that he’s reportidly turned down an offer in the region of £17million pounds.

This spells the end of the race for Boro in the hunt for his signature, atleast until the summer given Southgate’s more than public assessment of his transfer kitty.

“We have more targets than funds” Said Southgate.

Hopefully with most of his targets being players for the future, he can secure them from anywhere below £2million.

  1. Yeah no chance we can compete at those levels right now. I personally think the Liege Vice President is playing it cute and looking to drive up his price, whether he actually had an offer of £17M i’m not so sure.

  2. the thing is, after selling Fellaini for a decent sum i dont think Liege are in any desperate need to sell so they can probably hold out for very good fees. That sort of money definately puts him beyond our reach

  3. rumour has it that gordon mcqueen has bigged up aiden mcgeady for the right wing position not sure if its true, im not sure on mcgeady ive heard good things he destroyed luke young in pre season, however im not sure about the lad
