Tony Mac signs off with a goal - Owls fans sorry to see him leave

Middlesbrough right back, Tony McMahon, has returned to the club following his loan spell with Championship side Sheffield Wednesday and he signed off in style with a headed goal in their 3-2 win over Norwich City.

Tony has endeared himself to the fans of Sheff Wed through his quality play and passionate displays and Owls fans will be sorry to see him leave.

Chris Morris of SheffieldWednesday-mad.co.uk told us this:

Tony McMahon has now finished his 3-month loan spell with the Owls and this will come as a disappointment to most Wednesday fans.

His consistent performances combined with passion and commitment that is not always applied by loan players have allowed the club to take it easy with regards to the comeback of one of Wednesday’s best players, Frank Simek.

The American international full-back has been out of action since last December and has been missed but McMahon managed to fill the void very well and has kept Simek, who has been making good progress in the reserves, on the bench in recent matches.

His one moment of madness came at Oakwell when he was sent off in the South Yorkshire derby defeat to Barnsley and was subsequently sent back to ‘Boro.
He was however quick to hold his hands up and admit he had made an error of judgement and came back to complete his spell, with the kind of accomplished displays he began his time at the club with.

In the past few games he has shown the confidence, assurance and ability to be involved in taking attacking set pieces and finished his spell with a goal that he had somewhat spookily predicted or at least hoped for a little over a week earlier.

  1. I love McMahon and I, for one am glad to see he’s back at the club.

I hope he can put some pressure on Hoyte and get some games under his belt.

Hopefully his injury problems are behind him and he can show us what a quality player he was when he broke into the first team.

  2. Tony had a great spell in the team a couple of years back and if he’s over his injuries he really could challenge Hoyte for the right back spot. Great to see him back!

  3. yeah i really hope Tony is given a chance at Boro, I thought he looked a fantastic prospect when he first burst onto the scene and firmly believe if he had not been injured so often he would be a first team regular.

  4. what is it with our youngsters and serious injuries mcmahon, hines, bates, williams and downing had a serious injury

  5. Jynx, surely we’re due some luck soon.
