Southgate finally starting to see sense as he opens contract talks with Jones and the Bull
By Ross • Nov 10th, 2008 • Category: Boro NewsLast week i wrote an article detailing Southgate’s naivity over his top player’s contracts, in that his failiure to realise that the longer he delays talks, the riskier it becomes and the less chance we have of keeping the said stars.
Whether he reads these sites and their articles or not, nobody knows, but only a week later it’s becoming apparent that he’s finally seen sense.
Today it emerged that Boro have opened talks with both Jones and Turnbull in an effort to tie their long term futures to the club.
Turnbull’s form has been top notch all season and he’s been by far one of the best performing and most important players on the pitch for us, so it’s likely that there will be a few clubs keeping tabs on his situation here at Boro. Turnbull’s contract is currently due to expire in the summer of 2009, and he can sign a pre-contract with any other club as early as January 1st.
“We have started to talk,” Southgate told the Evening Gazette
“Both goalkeepers are in the same position and both feel they have a future with us.
“We are starting to make progress. Discussions will be ongoing.”
“Ross has shown more and more confidence as he continues to get games under his belt. He has responded to the challenge,” he concluded.

Get Turnbull signed up ASAP, he’s been outstanding this season. I also think Jones would be a capable understudy and would offer him a new deal
