Rhys Williams called up to Welsh senior squad
By Ross • Aug 27th, 2008 • Category: Reserves & AcademyYoung full-back Rhys Williams has been called upto the Welsh seniors in recognition of his efforts in the U-21’s.
Rhys is currently still waiting on the sidelines to make his competitive debut in Boro colours, but obviously John Toshack doesnt see that being a problem.
Rhys performed admirably in pre-season, coming onto the scene and impressing many watching fans the same way Tony McMahon did a couple of years earlier.
With the current state of the Welsh squad, is Toshack resorting to dirty tactics with Rhys?
Born in Australia, Rhys is eligible to play for not only the Socceroo’s, but Wales, India [through his father] and also England. With Rhys’ broad choice range with regards to International football, it would seem logical for Toshack to tie him down to Wales which, no doubt, will benefit them in the future, as its common knowledge that once capped for a country in the senior squad, you are unable to play for another.
It will make little difference to Rhys, he’s chosen to represent Wales at all levels so far.

Well done to Rhys, but it does a little strange or desperate to call someone up who only just made his Boro debut. Good luck to him, he does look a solid prospect.
I agree… looks like hes guaranteeing players for the future without actually needing to play them now on a regular basis… he’s done with one or two other hopefuls.
