O’Neil £4.5million offer rejected
By Ross • Jan 8th, 2009 • Category: Boro NewsPortsmouth have today submitted an official bid for want away midfielder Gary O'Neil.
It is understood that Gary is still finding it hard to settle on Teesside after he publicly announced in January it was affecting his game.
The problems were thaught to be over, but it seems that the prospect of moving back down south is too much to turn down and he subsiquently handed in a transfer request.
O'Neil's performances have been far below expectations this season, but with Boro seemingly without midfield cover, it would seem unlikely that O'Neil will be allowed to leave in January, atleast unless a replacement is already on the cards.
Boro originally paid an initial £3million, with £2.5million coming through on appearances and installments. Boro will get their money back atleast.

Get him gone in my opinion though. That’s nearly 5 million to spend on a player that can actually play football.
I would say sell but part of me thinks we should hang on to him until the summer. With Ali injured we could do with him on the right hand side and he at least has a little experience. If they came back with an improved bid though I would be very tempted
