One to watch - Jason Steele
By Shaun • Nov 4th, 2008 • Category: One to Watch, Reserves & AcademyMiddlesbrough predict a bright future ahead for this England youth international goalkeeper, hailing from Newton Aycliffe and standing 6ft 3ins tall, Jason Steele has already represented England at U16 and U17 level and was called into the U19 squad in September 2007 just a month after he celebrated his 17th birthday.
As a youngster, Steele initially played as a central-midfielder for his school team before converting to goalkeeper and he has been on the Boro bench a few times already this season whilst turning out regularly for the reserves.

Jason is also highly rated by the Engalnd youth set up and has recently been involved with the Under-19 team. After making his debut against China in April 2006, the Middlesbrough stopper played ten times at U17 level, including all five European Championship games. Went to the U17 World Cup in Korea last summer and was in the U19s squad last season, culminating in a trip to the European Championship finals in the Czech Republic.
Steele has all the attributes to succeed, he is tall, a very good shot stopper and a good user of the ball. He can only be encouraged by the fact that Gareth Southgate threw his support behind home grown keeper Ross Turnbull this season. At just 18 Jason is a few years away from the first team yet but, after watching reserve games this season, he is progressing very well and is most definatley one to watch out for in the future.
Steele has been on the bench to cover for Ross Turnbull this season when Brad Jones picked up an injury at Liverpool and he was involved with the first team in pre-season, looking very assured and competent whenever he was given a run out.
