One to Watch - James Cronesberry
By Shaun • Oct 15th, 2008 • Category: One to Watch, Reserves & AcademyJames Cronesberry (known as Jamma) is a young midfielder player, predominantly used as a wide player so far in his Boro career, who has been catching the eye for the Academy and in brief appearances for the reserves.
James initially played for his dad's team as a youngster and Thornaby St Pat's Junior School side, then several TJFA (Teesside Junior Football Alliance) teams as he developed, including Marton, Leven, and was with Norton & Stockton Ancients when invited to join Boro Academy's U15's.

He's fortunate to be blessed with pace and bags of stamina, and looked to be progressing towards a career as a promising athlete, winning numerous junior titles for school, town and County in sprint, distance and cross-country running, (and still holds some records now) but the lure of the Boro proved the deciding factor eventually.
Naturally left-footed, but equally comfortable using both feet, Jamma prefers to play central midfield. However, because of his attributes, Boro play him predominantly as a winger.
He qualifies to play for Republic of Ireland through his grandparents, as they both originated from Co. Kerry in Ireland's Munster province. To date he has made 2 representative appearances for R.O.I. U17's, both against Italy, in Jan 2007, 2 months after his 16th birthday....
James Cronesberry made his Middlesbrough Football Club senior debut - and won his first Middlesbrough silverware - in the North Riding Senior Cup Final in April 2007, coming on as a second half sub, scoring the 4th goal and claiming the assist with the final one in the 5-0 victory for Boro v Northallerton Town.
He has since established his place in the Academy U18's and stepped up to play the occasional game for the Reserves, making his debut v Liverpool @ the Riverside in Sept 07, playing alongside the likes of McMahon, Cattermole and Mendieta.
Having seen a few academy and reserve games this season I have been very impressed with young James Cronesberry. Quick and sharp, he looks extremely comfortable with the ball at his feet and has no hesistation in attacking the defender and hitting a shot from distance. Definitely one to watch for the future for Boro Fans.

Jamma is gonna be a cracking player, see him play for the academy a few times and even before then in the Teesside league
I haven’t heard too much about the lad but i did see him against Hull in the reserves, very slight but canny tall. Hit a good left foot shot in that game i remember, one of a good bunch of young players coming through i think.
smallwood, bennett, steele and cronesberry seem to all have potential to be superstars, lets hope one of them become a teesside version of aaron ramsey
wheater called up to england squad
Yeah well done Wheater, article on it here
keep these coming, i love reading about the academy and players coming through. Heard about this kid from a mate, but never seen him play.
