McMahon returns but is unable to play
By Shaun • Oct 24th, 2008 • Category: Boro NewsTony McMahon has been recalled from his loan spell with Championship side Sheffield Wednesday by Boro boss Gareth Southgate. Southgate has seen his defensive numbers diminished with injuries to Justin Hoyte and Robert Huth and has made the decision to bring back the FA Youth Cup winner.
McMahon had been performing very well for Sheffield Wednesday and earning praise from Owl’s fans. Here’s a quote from Sheff Wed fan Chris, editor of Sheffield Wednesday Mad following the Steel City derby against Sheff Utd.
He endeered himself to the crowd by showing great passion for the game and amplified this by from what I saw, throwing his shirt into the kop at the end of the game.
For a loan player his attitude and the way he has embraced the strong team spirit that we seem to have at the moment has been first class.
Despite our poor defensive record away from home we have kept a number of clean sheets at Hillsborough recently and Tony has certainly had more good games than bad-he will be missed.
McMahon, though, will not be immediately available to Southgate as he is banned for three matches after he was sent-off for The Owls in Tuesday’s defeat at Barnsley.
