McMahon flies South to join the Owls
By Shaun • Aug 21st, 2008 • Category: Boro NewsTony McMahon has joined Championship side Sheffield Wednesday on a month long loan deal. The right back will join the Owls to replace Richard Hinds who broke his leg. The news will come as a surprise to a lot of Boro fans who had tipped Tony to battle for the right back spot this season.
In a poll we ran prior to the Tottenham game 35% of Boro fans expected McMahon to start the game (interestingly 0% had David Wheater as the right back
)
McMahon has suffered terribly from injury since bursting onto the first team scene and we wish him all the best at Sheffield Wednesday and hope he regains his fitness and form. Boro Mania is hoping to link up with a couple of Sheffield Wednesday sites to get updates on Tony’s progress so stay tuned.

Good luck to Tony, I believe he is the best right back at the club but he needs to show he is fit and most importantly that he can stay fit and clear of injury. A Good move for him in my book.
Does this not leave us a little short of cover at the back? Hoyte is a RB but who is covering him? Wheater?
I think Hoyte will become the starting RB and that meant McMahon sitting on the bench. With all the football he’s missed over the last couple of seasons it makes sense for him to go on a short loan spell. Rhys Williams can cover RB and Wheater has shown he can play there if needed.
Good luck to him he needs Games to get fit i think Justin Hoyte will be 1st choice R/b but he will be good cover / when fit ofc.
Good luck to Tony, hope he does well and stays fit. I thought he was awesome when he first broke into the team and would love to see him back in the Boro lineup.
