Hovancik and Matic to train with Boro

By Shaun • Nov 30th, 2008 • Category: Boro News

You may remember a few days ago we brought you news of Boro's interest in promising midfielder Nemanja Matic, courtesy of Steve in Kosice. Well, we are now glad to inform you that it looks increasingly like the information is accurate as it is being reported on the Official MFK Kosice site that Nemanja Matic and another of their young prospects, Juraj Hovancik will be coming to Middlesbrough in December to train with the club and have a look around.

In the second week in December, the winter break for the Slovak league, both players will travel to England as part of a link up between the two clubs.

Hovancik is an 18 year old holding midfield player and is rated a very good prospect at MFK, Matic is rated as one of the best players in the Slovak league and the 20 year old playmaker is being looked at be a host of European clubs. His visit to Boro will give him the opportunity to meet and train with the players as he considers his options, MFK state that talks have been held between the two clubs regarding the player but no deal for a transfer has been agreed yet.

  1. Looks like a promising link up with Kosice. They seem like a real friendly club and the deal looks to benefit both teams. I’m really excited and it’s a good move by the club in this regard.

  2. The most promising thing is MFK seem to have a reputation for having the strongest youth setup in Slovakia so i can see why we would look to forge ties with them. We now have one of their kids on loan for 6 months starting Jan (Gal-Andrezly) and two coming over to train for a little while. Will be interesting to see the quality of the players.

  3. I can see their technical ability being very good, but im sure fitness isn’t worked on as much as it is over here with regards to stamina and overall physical fitness which is im sure something that Kosice might benefit from also and so will the players that visit the club who may or may not join the squad.

  4. Yeah i can agree with that. I think Steve (the guy in Kosice) mentioned that he thought part of the link up would involve coaches coming over to learn from ours and our coaches going over to help them improve their routines. I can see the benefits of a link up working for both teams and i’m quite excited at the prospect of a bit of forward thinking from Middlesbrough.

  5. Juraj Hovancik to train with Middlesbrough FC
Next month sees 1of our players Juraj Hovancik spend some time training with Middlesboro FC. This is part of the corporation programme we have between clubs.

“Earlier this year we agreed between clubs to exchange young talented players for 1 or 2 weeks, within our winter break or Middlesboro FC end of season. This would benefit players as they would train in different countries, and we believe would make young players becoming even stronger in all aspects”, says Head of football development MFK Kosice Allen Bula.

We have decided to send in this 1st trip one of our most promising young talents Juraj Hovancik. Juraj also plays for Slovakia U19.

Juraj will train during our winter with Middlesbrough FC from the 1st to 14th Dec.

18yr old Hovancik was given his first pro contract last week on his 18th birthday. He is one of the most powerful holding midfielders we have at present. “We know there has been interest from some top European clubs for this player, but MFK have not held any talks as we feel this is a very potential player for the future of MFK Kosice” says MFK Allen Bula.

MFK Allen Bula will spend the 2 weeks with the player, together with sporting technically manager MFK Stefan Tarkovic.
