Gareth rewarded for Boro’s best start for nine years
By Shaun • Sep 13th, 2008 • Category: Boro NewsGareth Southgate has been rewarded for Boro’s good start to the 2008/09 Premier League season by picking up the Manager of the Month award for August.
Victories over Spurs and Stoke in the Premier League as well as a very tight defeat at Anfield in which we were very unlucky not to come away with anything saw us pick up a healthy 6 points from a possible 9. The manner in which we have played so far this season has impressed the fans and led to praise from sections of the media and for that Southgate has picked up this award.
Gareth joins an elite group of managers who have collected the Player of the Month award and Manager of the Month award in their careers. The only other man to do it? Stuart Pearce.
Southgate told the MFC official site:
It’s a great honour and one that I except on behalf of all my staff and the entire club really.
I think it’s for July and August because all the preparation was done in the month before.
I feel that we’ve been a really united club for that period and the performances we’ve had in August has been due to the work we’ve done in pre-season.

Well deserved. I had my doubts at the start of the season especially when Young was sold but we’ve started very well. 1-0 up at Pompey at half time, would be a fantastic result if we could hang on to it.
Excellent, well done to all the staff at Boro. Shame about Pompey though
