Carragher clutches at straws as he tries to claim Poggy’s own goal

By Ross • Aug 27th, 2008 • Category: Match News

Jamie Carragher has announced that he intends to claim the shot come deflected own goal from Saturday’s match.

Carragher’s positioning on the right was a danger as a cross from the bi-line deflected. As that initial cross failed, he then ran passed unchallenged and took a wild shot at goal which, judged by replays, was never going to be on target in a million years. Unfortunately for Poggy, he was in the right place, but at the wrong time, and the ball deflected off him and flew past Turnbull leaving him flat footed.

Carragher isn’t noted for his goalscoring ability, so it shouldn’t come up as too much of a shock that it’s been put down as Boro’s second own goal in 2 matches.

‘I want to claim it but it’s not the end of the world if I don’t get it. I’m hardly going to break any goalscoring records, am I?’

  1. nah yer right mate, let poggy ave it, we`ll make do with stevie g`s winner while you get on with deluding yerselves that yer better than us like yer did after that home win about 5 years ago

  2. Tell you what mate if you think Carra’s shot was going nowhere near goal it might explain why you’re a Boro fan. Your keeper might have saved it but the shot looked on target. Anyhow I’m sure ‘poggy’ doesn’t want it and if you’d had a centre back as good and as loyal a servant, o sorry forgot meself there you won’t know what it is to have a player as good as Carra play for you for over a decade.will you? Sure you even sold “England’s best young midfielder” circa Boro fans 2 years ago over Cattermole was that because you’re not as big as Wigan or was he another hyped beyond all rational English player? My betting it’s the latter.

  3. I’m sure your super defender Carragher can comfort himself by watching Tuncay’s flick over and over. All he could do was grab his shirt and hope for the best, should have been a penalty and a red card.

My Liverpool supporting mates were raving about Wheater saying they’d have him in a heartbeat. Fair play Liverpool played to the end and won but we deserved at least a draw.

Oh and i think the article is light hearted so wind yer necks in

  4. LOL!

Yeah it was a light hearted article Fonz, i only wrote it for a bit of a giggle to see if i could ruffle any feathers. Good to see theres some level headed Liverpool fans about… innevitable you’d get the ones like above that spout alsorts of tripe lol.

Andy: Just take a look at the replay, it wasn’t on target. The camera angle gives you a perfect flight path of the ball until it rebounds off poggy. If the shot was on target it might well of gone in, or it might have been saved, who knows? It had a lot of pace on it. I’m not sure who the “England’s best midfielder” comment is aimed at, as ive never held Cattermole in such a high regard, so that was a pretty pointless statement and im sure not many fans would assume he was either. Cattermole was, and is a promising young defensive midfielder with a lot of talent, but theres just no place for him in our squad, so we cashed in and move on, simple as that. Anyway, any credibility you had went out the window when you resorted to trying to attack me on a personal level… i lol’d
