Caldwell due to choose Wigan over Boro?
By Shaun • Jan 12th, 2010 • Category: Boro NewsIt is being strongly rumoured that Celtic's Scottish International defender Gary Caldwell is about to join Wigan, despite agreeing terms with Middlesbrough.
Caldwell underwent a medical on Monday and had agreed a three-and-half-year deal to join Boro, however, the former Newcastle defender now looks set to have opted for a move to Wigan instead. In a move reminiscent of the Ben Watson transfer, Caldwell held talks with Roberto Martinez over the weekend and that looks to have convinced him to switch to the DW Stadium.
But should Boro fans be that upset? Reading the comments from Celtic supporters over on an earlier page reveals that they were not exactly upset at the thoughts of losing the defender. With one going so far as saying:
If Gary Caldwell has gone to Wigan, be thankful, be very thankful.
If it is true and Caldwell ends up at Wigan I can't say i'll be too disappointed.

Pray to God hes signed for Wigan as that gives you at least 21 points more than if he signed for Boro the man’s a complete numpty watch Wigan get relegated with his defending. The only guy apart from WGS who rates him is the bold Gary boy himself thats why we all called him HEID his head is full of self and if he played half as good as the ego he has he would be average.
Count yourselves fortunate that Heid will not be marshalling your defence.
A guy who is a legend in his own mind, a big mouth but not the game to back it up.
Should never have been allowed to be more than a back up at Celtic Park.
However, Barry Robson is a gem and I’ll be sad to see him go. Not the most skillful of players but the man has a massive heart, a sweet left foot and will not be found wanting when it comes to the battle. Killen will also flourish at Championship level, given the chance. As for Flood? I’ve shat bigger.
Good luck to Boro. Hope you pass Caldwell and Wigan on the way back to the EPL.
