Boro youngsters shine for England
By Shaun • Mar 29th, 2009 • Category: Boro NewsMiddlesbrough were well represented at International level as the England Under-21's beat their Norwegian counterparts in Sandefjord.
David Wheater, Adam Johnson and Andrew Taylor all started the game alongside former Boro youngster Lee Cattermole as England cruised past Norway 5-0 on a snow covered pitch.
Wheater and Johnson both completed the full 90 minutes with Andrew Taylor playing the first 45 minutes. England took the lead on the quarter hour mark as Manchester United youngster Frazier Campbell, currently on loan at Spurs, smashed a low drive past the Norway 'keeper following a nice pass from Tom Huddlestone.
England went two up as Onouha worked the ball into Adam Johnson and the Boro winger finished well from 15 yards out.
Tom Huddlestone may it 3-0 with a 25 yard pile driver before 2 late Matt Derbyshire goals sealed the win for England.
It was good to see Boro so well represented in this game, David Wheater and Andrew Taylor defended well to help England to a clean sheet, even if they were rarely tested. It was another fine performance at Under-21 level for Adam Johnson as he continues to build his reputation.

Looking through the England squads on the TheFA.com and we seem very well represented, particularly the lower age groups.
U16 - Bruno Piliatos, Jake Fowler and David Actkinson (the leter 2 called up as replacements) for the the tournament played the last couple of weeks.
U17 - Kieran Edwards and Cameron Park
U18/U19 - Richie Smallwood, Jonathan Franks and Jason Steel
U20 - Josh Walker
If one or two of these could become top premiership quality, like Downing and a few squad players we could be very lucky and keep us going forward despite our increasing lack of spending power.
This is not to mention a few players from different nationalities…
Who’s your bet on the next Boro 10m player from the Academy. Or at least those who have a very good chance??
Also if Burnley go up through the play-off, would it be worth letting them keep Rhys William for a season as we would get the long term benefit…
My friend, Liverpool fan, referreed an Under-16 game not long ago and was very impressed with the group as a whole. I’ve heard good things about Fowler and Pilatos from that group. I like Jon Franks a lot I think he has a lot of potential, Smallwood is a very talented central midfielder too. I would like to see Porritt given a chance next season, he has the skills and ability to go a long way if he can match that with the workrate and desire required.
