Boro coach has faith in Alves

By Ross • Oct 22nd, 2008 • Category: Boro News

“We believe that Afonso will start scoring again and we will keep faith with him.” Is what Malcolm told the Evening Gazette.

It's not exactly the latest breaking story that Alves hasn't got his scoring boots on, but the backroom staff are taking the situation lightly.

Alves has only scored one goal this season, a magnificent free kick against Stoke. The Fons has been unlucky in front of goal this season... but it's not just luck, he's had absolutely no service what so ever, and that's set to continue unless changes are made to the starting line-up.

Malcolm Crosby seems to think it's just a matter of time until the goals start flooding in, but you and I both know that with O'Neil and Shawky flat in the centre of midfield, sending through a total of zero killer passes, then both Mido and Alves are going to be starved of service. Mido's goal tally is a mixture of very good individual goals and the result of a couple of assists, but to score in the Premier League, Alves is going to need a lot of killer passes to feed from.

Unless Southgate grows some testicular fortitude and rings the changes, Alves can expect to be in his barren spell for a while unless he conjurs up some Samba magic and takes things into his own hands.

  1. yeah, its not he’s been missing sitters every week. He is just not getting any sort of service

  2. People seem to expect him to just score goals from nothing, but every decent striker has service from midfield. Alves doesn’t.

  3. Alves will come good i’m confident of that, he just needs someone in the centre of midfield who can play a decent forward pass. Maybe Arca?

  4. i blame the lack of creativity from centre midfield from o’neil and shawky i think digard and arca would be our best pairing, maybe with the return of tuncay we can dramatically improve

and downing better start performing soon
