Ben Foster continues to be linked to the Boro

By Ross • Sep 29th, 2008 • Category: Boro News

Rumours surfacing last week suggesting Southgate is to bid for Manchester United’s Ben Foster in January are still gathering pace.

The Goalkeeping situation at Boro is still up for much debate as Turnbull and Jones fight it out for the number one jersey, but it could end up being neither of them if rumours in the press are true.

Turnbull has been enjoying an excellent spell in goal for us this term. He’s guilty of a few errors naturally, as a young goalkeeper gaining Premiership experience, but those errors are far over-shadowed by some excellent saves during all of these games, including a world-class stop to keep Boro in the game against West Brom.

Foster has been linked with a January move totalling around the £6m mark, which is a good price considering his skill and pedigree.

Foster is finding it hard to break into the first-team yet again this season. Edwin van der Sar is currently the number-one at United and is likely to be for the next two years until he inevitably leaves, leaving Tomasz Kuszczak as their most experienced stopper. Ben Amos was preferred in goal mid-week to Foster also, which could be seen as an indication that he’s surplus to requirements.

Personally, i think Turnbull should be allowed to keep the jersey, at least until the end of the season. His performances have been brilliant and I’m so impressed by him. He has shown some errors to his game, but the goals we’ve conceded aren’t because of that. It’s the defense we need to be looking at, as it’s been defensive errors that are the culprit of the goal conceding bug.

Naturally though, i wouldn’t complain at the purchase of Ben Foster. He’s a top class keeper and I’d definitely welcome him to the Boro.

Should Southgate bring in Ben Foster and kick out Jones?

  1. Once can dream, the only reason Amos was picked is becuase Foster is injured for up to 6 weeks, following an injury from the reserve game against Blackburn the other week. He was due to be on the bench against Chelsea, you can borrow him until the end of the season.. give him the PL experience he needs again… but very much doubt you’ll ever be sble to keep him!!

  2. Ah i see, i checked the Physio Room and he wasn’t on the list so i assumed he was fit.

We’ll see whether we can keep him or not if we make a bid ;)
