Bates returns from the Injury wilderness
By Ross • Oct 22nd, 2008 • Category: Boro NewsMatthew Bates is a happy camper this week after returning from a horrific set of injuries over the past couple of years.
He’s just returned from a period of 8 months rehab and is happy to be back in the frame.
“I hope to be knocking on the first-team door in six weeks,” he said.
“It’s good to be back. I had 30 minutes in a behind closed doors game last week and now another 45 minutes for the reserves.
Bates started last night’s heavy defeat to Newcastle in the Reserves and currently working his way back upto match fitness, and first team contention.
“I’m a centre-back but I was happy to play right-back. There are possible opportunities in the first team at right-back at the moment and so it has given me a target to aim for. I want to get involved again and push for my place.
“My body is 100 per cent again, but maybe my lungs are only 70 or 80 per cent, and that’s why I need a few more games.
“It won’t be easy with the reserves playing every other week, but I have to keep going in training as well.”
I was impressed with him when he broke into the first team so i wish him all the best when he ’s fully fit!

good to see Batesy back, im not sure he’ll make a centre back like he lacks a bit of height but him and McMahon might just provide a bit of competition at right back.
